The $10,000 Question- What Would You Do?
What would you do with $10,000 if you had an opportunity to do so today? Last weekend the city of Detroit and the entire world lost an icon. Mike Ilitch founder and owner of the Little Caesar Franchise pizzeria died. He and his wife started their business in 1959 with all of their life savings. Today, their net worth is estimated over 6.1 billion dollars. What I find so amazing in hearing the life of Mr. Ilitch is that he gave his business, his life, the city he lived in all he could. After diligently working and growing his business, he soon began to franchise and expand his horizons with the goal of getting his product even further than his own hometown. Well the results have proven to been successful. There are over 2,000 franchises of Little Caesar’s Pizza all over the world.
In addition to franchising his business, Mr. Ilitch and his family began to invest in his hometown- Detroit. At a time when many businesses had left Detroit, and it was considered a ghost town to so many, Mr. Ilitch decided to move his headquarters to downtown Detroit, buy the Detroit Tigers, buy the Detroit Red Wings Hockey, build Comerica Park Baseball Stadium, and revitalize the city. His plans and purchases worked. His determination, fortitude, and stick-to-it-ness will never be forgotten.
I work with many young entrepreneurs, business owners, and many who want to own their own business. I ask the question what would you do with $10,000? Who would be willing to give all of their life savings for their business, for their dreams? Who would be willing to work hard day and night to see the business grow? Who would be willing to invest their hard earned money in a dying, struggling community and give hope to those around?
I’d like to hear from you. For many of you who have already started your business, are you giving it your all? For those just starting their business- are you giving it your all? Will you give back to your community? If we are going to be in business then we must- do business and leave a legacy for generations to come. What are you doing today giving 100 % for your business? I'd like to hear from you.
